Simón didn't know that that little gesture would be seen by so many people. He simply did something that surprised everyone who was watching the scene.
During a prayer in the parish of Santo Domingo Savio of Villavicencio, in Colombia, Father Carlos Mario Peña Lopera was praying next to a young man, holding a hand on his head.
Next to them was Simón, one of the two dogs that for over six years accompany the priest in daily life and during the celebrations.
At one point, Simón slowly lifted a foot towards the priest.
Father Carlos did not leave him: he took his leg gently and continued to pray.
The scene lasted a few moments, but the video quickly began to circulate on social media.
And behind that leg there's a bigger story.
Simón wasn't a dog who accidentally entered the church that day. Together with Luna, his mother, he has been accompanying Father Carlos Mario for over six years. The faithful of the parish are now accustomed to seeing them near the priest and during the celebrations.
And it wasn't even the first time the two drew social attention.
A few weeks before, during a Mass, Simón and Luna were located near the altar when the songs began. The two dogs began to bark and howl together with music, while Father Carlos smiled and continued the celebration.
That video reached millions of people.
Simón and Luna have become, over time, a family presence in the life of the priest and community.
No one can know what Simón really understood about that prayer, and his behavior can of course have a simple explanation, linked to the interaction with the people he knows.
But we know what happened at the time.
Simón offered his paw.
And the priest took her.
Sometimes they are just the simplest and spontaneous gestures to become the ones we remember longer.
