For more than fifteen years he tried to accept that skin which, as a child, had become a cause of derision. Then Logina Salah chose to show it to the world.
He was eight years old when vitiligo began to appear on his skin, at a time when he also faced lupus.
In Alexandria, he had to confront the other children. An experience that would have long marked the relationship with its image.
Accepting was not immediate.
It took about fifteen years before Logina could look differently at those spots that for so long had considered something to hide.
Meanwhile, however, he did not abandon the desire to work in the world of beauty and fashion.
He became a make-up and model, building a career in Dubai in an area where the exterior appearance is continually observed and judged.
Then, in 2024, the moment came when he transformed his personal experience into something much more visible.
At age 34 she was crowned Miss Universe Egypt 2024 and represented Egypt in Miss Universe.
Logina Salah became the first competitor with Vitiligo in the history of Miss Universe and also managed to enter the Top 30.
But the meaning of its history is not only the result obtained on an international stage.
It lies in the distance between the child who was derided for his appearance and the woman who, years later, chose to present herself before the world without hiding her skin.
Vitiligo changes skin pigmentation and makes some areas visibly clearer. It does not define, however, the talent, skills or value of a person.
For Logina, coming to accept it took years.
And this is perhaps the most powerful part of his path: not a transformation of his skin, but the way he learned to look at it.
Sometimes the most important goal is not to become what others consider perfect.
It's stop believing you have to be.
