For six years, they believed they never saw him again.
Then came a phone call that seemed impossible.
The Montez family had looked everywhere for his dog, Corky, after his disappearance. The months passed, then the years. They eventually moved, bringing with them only the pain of not knowing what happened.
It seemed like a story destined not to have a happy ending.
Until six years later, a man found three dogs along a Texas road.
One unfortunately did not survive.
The other two were rescued and taken to a refuge.
When operators controlled the microchip of one of them, they discovered something incredible.
It was Corky.
Thanks to that small device, the shelter operators managed to track the Montez family.
"We were in shock. We couldn't believe it," said Jimmy Montez.
But the most exciting moment had yet to come.
Next to Corky there was another dog.
His name was Captain.
He had only one eye and, according to the volunteers, the two were inseparable. They had faced years of stray life together, always standing next to each other.
The family immediately realized she couldn't divide them.
"We have dissolved our hearts. We realized they had to stay together. ยป
So that day they didn't come home with one dog.
They welcomed two.
Since then Corky and Captain share everything: the wedge, games, meals and family affection that welcomed them.
Corky, they tell his owners, keeps even letting Captain eat first, as if he still wants to take care of his best friend.
This story recalls how important the microchip is, which has made possible a reunion after six long years.
But he also teaches something even more beautiful.
Sometimes the family you find... He comes with a friend who never left you alone.
