At 20 years Abigail Martin transformed a 2017 Ford Transit into his home and chose a life where the view outside the window can change continuously.
The idea was born looking online at the experiences of other people who had embraced the so-called van life: live and travel aboard an equipped van.
Abigail decided to really try.
First, however, he had to turn that dream into an economically sustainable project.
He managed to save around $18,000 to buy the vehicle and invested 10,000 more to suit the needs of everyday life.
Inside it echoed the space for a bed, a small kitchen and an electrical system.
In a few square meters there was virtually everything that is normally distributed in the rooms of a house.
Then the journey began.
Abigail also began to tell his everyday life about TikTok, showing not only the most suggestive aspects of life on the road, but also the way he organizes the spaces and precautions he adopts to feel safe living and traveling in this way.
His story has attracted a huge audience: over 700,000 people have started following it and his content has collected millions of appreciations.
Behind the images of freedom, however, there is a detail that is often forgotten when you look at van life through social media.
A four-wheeled house requires organization.
We need to think about energy, food, limited spaces, places to stop and especially safety.
The freedom to change destination also carries the responsibility to manage aspects that in a traditional house we tend to give for discount.
And maybe that's what made Abigail's choice so interesting for so many people.
He didn't just buy a van to leave.
He has spared, designed and transformed a 2017 vehicle into a space where he can build a different everyday life.
